ALTERNATE LOCATE AGREEMENTS
PRACTICE STATEMENT:
Alternate Locate Agreements (ALAs), also referred to
as variance agreements or permits, may be used providing the facility owner
and ground disturber agree on the terms and conditions.
PRACTICE DESCRIPTION:
An Alternate Locate Agreement (ALA) is a
contractual agreement between a facility owner and a ground disturber that
allows the ground disturber to proceed with excavation work without receiving
a traditional field locate. The facility owner determines the terms and

disturber.
The details of an ALA must be stated in writing and available on the project for

Maintain that the health and safety of the workers as well as public safety
