The review and comment period for CSA Z247 – Damage Prevention for the Protection of Underground Infrastructure – is now open for 60 days terminating August 26, 2014. The CSA Z247 Technical Committee will reconvene in September to review and consider those comments.
Please note the language in section 4.1 and 4.2 relative to registration with a One Call Service. It is the CCGA’s position that it is unfortunate that they were unable to enforce registration by virtue of the language in this Standard; however, due to the requirements of the Standards Council communicated to the CSA Z247 Technical Committee in late April 2014 by the CSA Quality Manager, CSA Standards cannot enforce registration or membership with any “association”. CSA interpreted One Call Services as such.
(With regard to “registration”, you will need to register to have access to the Draft Standard and provide comment. The registration process is fast and painless – just click THIS LINK provided below and you’re on your way).
All comments must be submitted through the CSA Public Review System (link above) and are due by the end of the day (midnight EDT) on August 26, 2014. Comments will not be accepted in any other format (e.g. via e-mail, voice-mail, formal letters, etc) and late comments cannot be accepted.
The CCGA has asked that we circulate this update memberships and associations. The CCGA’s “reach” is now 1.3 million – if feedback is loud enough, maybe something can be done about the registration language limitations imposed by the Standards Council of Canada relative to Sections 4.1 and 4.2.
Should you experience any issues reading the draft, submitting comments, or have any general questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mike Sullivan, Executive Director – CCGA at msullivan@canadiancga.com.
