Incident overview

A residential gas line was struck by an excavator after the homeowner failed to hand-expose the line at multiple locations as required, resulting in a fire that damaged vegetation, a home window, and the excavator itself. Although no injuries occurred, the incident caused moderate property damage and, more than $25,000 in emergency response resources. The homeowner had received accurate gas line location information from BC1Call but disregarded safety regulations.
