Protecting underground energy and public utility networks is vital, not only to the safety of workers, the public, and our communities, but also to the integrity of our economy and environment. Each year, the DIRT Report provides essential insight into the root causes and trends associated with these damages. Encouragingly, the 2024 data reveals a continued year-over-year decline in reported damages across the country and in BC. Since 2020, the number of reported incidents has dropped from 11,675 to 8,335, a reduction of 28.6%. While this trend is promising, it reinforces the need for ongoing diligence and collaboration.
