Best Practice and DIRT Committee

The Committee works to identify those Best Practices that are appropriate for each stakeholder group, gauge current levels of implementation and use of those Best Practices, and encourage and promote increased implementation of the Best Practices.

On an ongoing basis, the Committee considers adding to the national Best Practices to incorporate new developments in damage prevention processes, procedures, practices, and technology.  The Committee also contributes feedback and input to the Canadian version of Best Practices.  Comments and feedback can be directed to info@commongroundbc.ca.

This Committee also works to encourage data collection that is built on the Common Ground Alliance USA’s (CGA) Damage Information Reporting Tool (DIRT).  The primary purpose in collecting underground facility damage data is to analyze data, learn why events occur and determine what actions by industry can prevent them in the future, thereby ensuring the safety and protection of people and infrastructure.  The use of BC Virtual Private DIRT will allow the BCCGA to identify root causes, perform trend analyses, and ultimately help educate all stakeholders so that damages can be reduced through more effective practices and procedures.  The deadline for calendar reporting is March 31st and the national report is issued at the annual Canadian Damage Prevention Symposium.
